For 23 years, Yorke was in a relationship with artist and lecturer Rachel Owen, whom he met at the University of Exeter. She and Yorke had a son Noah, born in 2001, and a daughter Agnes, born in 2004. According to the Times, Yorke and Owen married in a secret ceremony in May 2003 in Oxfordshire, which was not reported to the media. In August 2015, the couple announced they had separated amicably "after 23 highly creative and happy years". Owen died of cancer on 18 December 2016, aged 48.
