Ja Rule Gets 28-Month Sentence for Tax Evasion

After not paying income taxes on more than $3 million dollars in earnings, Ja Rule was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison earlier today (July 18). The “Superstar” rapper (real name Jeffrey Atkins) admitted to not ponying up to Uncle Sam on his earnings between 2004 and 2006, which led to the time behind bars and a required payment of $1.1 million in back taxes and fees.

Ja Rule: Headed to Prison

He’s got two years behind bars ahead of him, and Ja Rule began his sentence by turning himself in this morning (June 8). The “Always on Time” rapper was arrested back in 2007 after police found a loaded semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun in his Maybach automobile. The serial number had been filed off the gun.
