Edwin Donald "Duke" Snider (September 19, 1926 – February 27, 2011), nicknamed "The Silver Fox" and "The Duke of Flatbush", was an American professional baseball player. Primarily a center fielder, he spent most of his Major League Baseball (MLB) career playing for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers (1947–1962), later playing one season each for the New York Mets (1963) and San Francisco Giants (1964).

the duke and dodgers were my favorites growing up in the fifties in minnesota. i batted left and roamed centerfield in high school and college but there our similarity ended. the duke represents the best of baseball in america. he spoke to young boys and referred to those who smoked and drank as knotheads . that stayed with me always...i lived that way and raised my children that way. thanks duke, your friend always, hugh from minnesota
