Biography
Former Universal and Technicolor exec Charles F. Simonelli died SundayJuly 8 of complications from Alzheimer's disease at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Conn. He was 79.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he started out in the advertising and merchandising department of the Gotham branch of Universal Pictures in 1942. Over the course of 20 years, he rose to veepee and assistant to the president, eventually relocating to Los Angeles.
In 1962, Simonelli returned to New York to become corporate vice president of Technicolor, where he later advanced to exec VP and chief operating officer.
After ankling the entertainment industry in 1968, he took on such management positions as prexy and COO of National Industries and exec veep of National Bulk Carriers and served as an independent management consultant.
From 1977 to 1979, Simonelli resided in Paris, France, where he was CEO and managing director of Numinter, which produced and marketed commemorative coins for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. Upon returning to the United States, he founded and topped Simstra, an independent financial and management consulting firm.
Simonelli is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Strefaci Simonelli, two daughters and four grandchildren.
