Wikipedia

Paperhouse is a 1988 British dark fantasy film directed by Bernard Rose. It was based on the novel Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. The film also stars Ben Cross as the heroine's father. Other actors of note in the film include Jane Bertish, Samantha Cahill, Glenne Headly and Gemma Jones. Paperhouse is notable for marking lead actress Charlotte Burke's only major film role. Elliott Spiers, who played 'Marc', made only one more film (Taxandria) before an acquired psychological illness in his late teens precluded him from continuing his acting career. Elliott never recovered his mental health and ultimately took his own life at the age of 20 on 15 January 1994 in Hampstead, London.
