Weeds is an American television comedy-drama created by Jenji Kohan that debuted on the Showtime cable network on August 7, 2005. The show revolves around Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), a widowed mother of two boys—Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould)—from Southern California who turns to selling marijuana to support her family after her husband unexpectedly dies. Over the course of the show, Nancy becomes involved in illegal activities on an escalating scale; the latter finds the family evacuating the state and later the country as Shane perpetrated murder in protection of the family. The show's executive producers include showrunner Kohan, writers Roberto Benabib, Matthew Salsberg, and director Craig Zisk.
