Details
Alcetas I (Greek: ), (390, 385 - 370 BC) king of Epirus, was the son of Tharypus. For a reason, of which we are not informed, he was expelled from his kingdom, and took refuge with Dionysius I of Syracuse, by whom he was reinstated. After his restoration we find him the ally of the Athenians, and of Jason of Pherae, the Tagus of Thessaly. In 373 BC, he appeared at Athens with Jason, for the purpose of defending Athenian general Timotheus, who, through their influence, was acquitted. On his death the kingdom, which till then had been governed by one king, was divided between his two sons, Neoptolemus I and Arybbas.
