André do Avelar, also known as "Andre dauellar" (c.Lisbon), was a writer and professor who published astronomical works at the University of Coimbra. His works sought to explain astronomy, astrology, and the calendar year to the people of Lisbon. Despite his esteem, he would later be sentenced to life in prison by the Inquisition as he was accused of being a Judaizer.
