Akyns or aqyns (Kazakh: ақын, Kyrgyz: акын, both transcribed as aqın or اقىن) are improvising poets and singers in the Kazakh and Kyrgyz cultures. Akyns differ from the zhirau [ru] or manaschi [ru], who are song performers or epic storytellers.
