Sir Arnold Whittaker Wolfendale FRS (25 June 1927 – 21 December, 2020) was a British astronomer who served as Astronomer Royal from 1991 to 1995. He is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Physics at Durham University and served as president of the European Physical Society (1999–2001). He was President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1981-83.
