Bartholomew Ferrari was the grandfather of Lodovico Ferrari, the renowned student of Cardano, who discovered the solution to the quartic equation. Bartholomew was known for being kicked out of Milan and having to move to Bologna where his son would grow to be one of the most important mathematicians of their time. Cardano, author of Ars Magna, in 1545, included Lodovico's solution to the quartic equation. Were it not for his move to Bologna a mathematical center, to some extent, Lodovico would likely never have solved the quartic equation.
