I knew Bernard in the later 1940`s when he had already forsaken acting for medicine, and was courting Lynne, a drama school classmarte of mine at USC. He was warmly friendly, articulate, focussed, and a thoroughly mature adult. Lynne was remarkably pretty, intelligent, and a gifted actress. She and I were invited by another classmate Sam Peckinpah, to act the Cary Grant/Priscilla Lane roles in his production of Arsenic and Old Lace at the Huntington Park Civic Theater where he was resident director, his first professional job. Lynne accepted, then thought better of it. I think she realized lengthy rehearsal and peformance commitments would rob her of time she`d much prefer to spend with Bernie. I`m delighted to find here that two terrific people led such long, meaningful lives together and produced two stalwart sons.
