Ms. Magnuson's television and movie ventures have earned her enough to rent a home in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles ("with its great view of the riots," she said), where she spends part of each year with her significant other, Brad Dunning, an artist. They've been together since 1987, "but I have an independent streak that's hard to shake," she continued, suddenly imitating one of her characters, Sweet Pea, the homeless biker babe: "I need my space ."
