Camila Cabello and Austin Mahone met at 2013 MTV Video Music Awards in August 25, 2013. They supposedly began a relationship around October 2013. After a year denying their relationship, Camila Cabello confirmed they were dating in November 3, 2014.
On November 19, 2014, Austin Mahone finally opened up about girlfriend Camila Cabello, gushing to Teen Vogue's December/January issue, "She's an amazing girl, and we have the best time together."
"I wasn't looking for a relationship," says the 18-year-old singer, "but we became really good friends when we were on tour."
Camila, 17, and her Fifth Harmony bandmates joined Austin on tour this summer, along with Shawn Mendes and The Vamps. While still on the road, Austin old Fuse TV he loved hanging out with Camila and her crew, saying, "They're talented... and they're beautiful."
However, quickly after, in November 24, 2014, Camila confirmed the pair have called it quits.
"We're actually not together anymore," Fifth Harmony member Cabello, 17, told 96.1 KISSFM of her relationship with Mahone. "Hey, things happen."
The quick split – the singers reportedly began dating in October 2013 – comes just weeks after Cabello confirmed her relationship status with the "Say Somethin" singer, 18, on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live.
On April 30, 2015, Austin Mahone throws a shade to Camila while he confirmed those rumors that he and Becky G were an item.
During an interview with MTV, Austin said that he is, indeed, dating Becky G. He elaborated, saying (quote via Ryan Seacrest), “Yeah, you could say we’re dating. We’re dating. It’s crazy, I never had, like, a real relationship before, so it’s pretty crazy. It’s great being in a relationship with someone that does the same thing you do. We understand each other, we understand what we do.” Ouch.
This, naturally, upset Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello — who, after an entire year of speculation, finally confirmed she was dating Austin back in November. Austin even gushed to Teen Vogue about dating the “Sledgehammer” singer, saying, “She’s an amazing girl, and we have the best time together. I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but we became really good friends when we were on tour.” Camila confirmed the split a few weeks later during a radio interview.
Camila caught wind of the interview and tweeted, “damn...good to know.” And, truth be told, she does not directly reference Austin in her tweet, but we’re going to go ahead and take an educated guess and assume she’s talking about him. Harmonizers [Fifth Harmony fandom] were up to the task of defending Camila so they got #CamilaDefenseSquad trending on Twitter.
6 months after the break-up, Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello opened up about her past romance with teen sensation Austin Mahone.
In the June/July 2015 issue of Seventeen, the singer says she has no ill will towards her ex-boyfriend. Denying the existence of an alleged love triangle between the her former beau and his current squeeze, Becky G, Cabello reflects fondly on her relationship with Mahone.
“I don’t regret anything. It was my first kiss, my first love,” she says. “It’s important to learn about liking somebody and being swept away, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
