Roy Rogers stood as godfather to Carl`s only child, a son which was fathered during a brief marriage to a woman named Dianne Collingwood, the daughter of a successful Kansas farmer named Lelo Collingwood. Although by all accounts the couple was very much in love, the marriage deteriorated and they divorced in 1956. Alfalfa`s son was raised not knowing who his father was. When Dian`s found out that her then, ex husband Carl, died, she didn`t want anything to do with him, nor cared that he was killed. She, being the ex-wife still had control over his body, and would not give her consent to have Carl`s parents take charge in releasing his body from the coroner, therefore postponing his funeral, having Carl`s parents needing doctors sedation. Collingwood`s lawyer was quoted as saying "My opinion would be that she has no further interest in her ex-husband, dead or alive. I`m sure she doesn`t intend to claim his body." When asked if she would release his body to his parents, her lawyer replied: "If They (Carl`s Parents) need Dian`s approval to get the body, it`ll probably stay in the morgue a hell of a long time." That being said, Dian caused a lot of frustration for Switzer`s parents. After Dian`s divorce from Carl, she quickly married once again to someone else.
