In addition to his technology career, Breen is also a musician who has performed professionally for two decades. He was a senior editor at Mac Publishing, a division of International Data Group which publishes the US edition of Macworld. His "Mac 911" column appeared monthly in that magazine and online. He also hosted the Macworld Podcast with Susie Ochs (previously Serenity Caldwell) until February 2015..
