Christfried Schmidt (26 November 1932 – 29 April 2025) was a German composer who worked as a church musician and piano teacher. In composition, he felt mostly self-taught. Some of his works for large choirs and orchestras were not performed during the period of East Germany, but were premiered decades after he wrote them, such as his 1975 St Mark Passion in Berlin in 2019 and his 1968 Second Symphony in memory of Martin Luther King in Dresden in 2021.
