“Once” star Cristin Milioti says she never watched “Sex and the City.”
No matter. She’s found herself living Carrie Bradshaw’s life — specifically, the chapter with the dreamy furniture maker boyfriend.
“Everybody says it,” says Milioti. “Everyone says ‘It’s so Carrie and Aidan.’”
The rising-star stage actress is talking about her boyfriend Jesse Hooker, an actor-turned-woodworker with a shop in Brooklyn.
Need a custom table from bowling alley remnants? Remade mirrors? Seating made from wood from stables?
Hooker specializes in reclaiming materials from around New York City. Very cool. Very Aidan Shaw, Carrie’s on-and-off fiancé.
“He makes beautiful stuff,” says Milioti. “Tables, seating, and all from reclaimed material.”
The couple's home in Bushwick, Brooklyn, apartment is filled with his designs.
“We are not for want of furniture,” says Milioti.
Each piece, the down-to-earth designer notes in his website (www.hookerandco.com), is a celebration of the city’s rich industrial heritage.
In “Once,” Milioti and Steve Kazee play musicians who meet in Dublin and forge a life-changing relationship over the span of a week.
In real life, Milioti and Aidan, er, sorry, Jesse met four years ago. They started dating a few years later.
Since then, Milioti has traded an apartment on the upper West Side and a view of Riverside Park for his outer-borough Bushwick place.
“I did it all for love,” she says.
Carrie Bradshaw would approve.
