Daniel P. Ames (born 1970) is an American scientist/engineer/hydrologist/programmer known for his work in hydroinformatics and open source Geographic Information Systems, and Environmental Modelling. Ames is a full professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA. He is a past president (2016-2020) and fellow of the International Environmental Modelling & Software Society and is the Editor-in-Chief (2016–present) of the Elsevier academic journal Environmental Modelling & Software. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the open source publication, Open Water Journal
