Shiels has previously played for Hibernian, Doncaster Rovers, Kilmarnock, Rangers, Dundalk, FC Edmonton and Dunfermline Athletic. He has also played in 14 full international matches for Northern Ireland. His father is Kenny Shiels, who was his manager at Kilmarnock.
