Elliot "Lee" Sander is the former Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York, having tendered his resignation on Thursday, May 7, 2009 following legislation preventing the MTA's "Doomsday plan" of fare hikes and service cuts. The authority runs two commuter railroads (the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Railroad), the Subway and public bus lines of New York City and Nassau County, the New York City Transit Authority and MTA Long Island Bus, and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority which maintains New York City's major bridges. In total, he is responsible for a budget of over $9 billion annually.
