In February 1943, shortly after his divorce from Beatrice Cartwright, McEvoy married Irene Margaret Wrightsman, the 18-year-old daughter of Charles B. Wrightsman, president of Standard Oil of Kansas. Wrightsman was disinherited by her father following the elopement, and the union lasted about two years before ending in divorce around 1944–1945.
