Freddy De Schutter (1948 – 11 March 2021) was a Belgian literary critic. He was controversial and heavily criticized, especially among academics. His main work was his Het verhaal van de Nederlandse literatuur, a 3-part bookseries about the Dutch-language history of literature. His first book (1992) was from Middle Ages to Baroque. In 1994 and 2000 he continued with the 19th century. His third part was about the era after 1945.
