Hansard's partner, Finnish poet Maire Saaritsa, gave birth to their first child, a boy, in October 2022.
Hansard and Saaritsa married in December 2022. He had revealed on a TV show that he “married” his love Maire Saaritsa “over his mother’s dead body”. After his mother’s death in July 2020, he put her ring on Maire’s finger and said “now we’re married”.
They lived in both Ireland and in Saaritsa's home city, Helsinki.
