Gray Foy and Leo Lerman met in 1948, fell in love, and spent the next 46 years together. Gray was a promising young artist; Leo, a writer who would go on to become a legendary editor and tastemaker at Condé Nast.
Over the years, the pair would play host to Truman Capote, Marlene Dietrich, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Cary Grant, Maria Callas, Susan Sontag and other famous friends. These celebrities were lured to the fabulous apartment at the Osborne by the best conversation in New York.
“Lerman’s parties attracted everyone... To list more names (there are hundreds) sounds pretentious. But Lerman was not pretending; he knew absolutely everyone, and what’s more, absolutely everyone knew him.”
New York Times, April 22, 2007
After working at Condé Nast for 50 years, Leo died in 1994.
Gray died in 2012.
