He's already a 'husband' on screen and it's about to be a case of life imitating art for Gyton Grantley.
The 35-year-old House Husbands' star has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of five years Alexandra Ortuso, 30, a primary school teacher from Melbourne.
Speaking to Woman's Day magazine, the couple detailed the proposal in Burano, Italy, which didn't quite go according to plan.
While on holiday together earlier this year, Gyton got down on one knee to ask his lovely lady for her hand in marriage, but Alex freaked out and literally walked away from the Aussie star.
'He was like "You can say no, but just come and answer me!",' the bride-to-be recounted.
'I was quite surprised that Alex was surprised, I thought she had been expecting it,' he added.
The pair first met at the Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland in 2010 and immediately hit it off, spending the whole day together before going their separate ways.
A few months later, Gyton landed his role in the Nine Network drama and moved to Melbourne to begin filming and wound up moving into the same street as Alex.
Joking that he was stalking her, Alex laughed saying: 'It was a weird coincidence because I hadn't told him where I lived'.
After a couple of years living on the same street, the pair moved in together and even bought a labrador-kelpie dog together.
With the next step in their relationship on his mind, Gyton called Alex's father first for permission after deciding their Italian holiday was the perfect time to propose.
But that's where the traditions ended, with the actor purchasing a novelty ring instead of picking out a standard diamond.
The pair later picked out Alex's sapphire and diamond vintage-style engagement ring together and are busily planning their nuptials next year.
And the couple joke that their roles will be somewhat reversed with the groom wanting all the bells and whistles, while the bride doesn't want any attention on her.
Gyton has also revealed his former cast mates from Underbelly and current House Husbands co-stars will all be invited to the laid back shindig.
Meanwhile, Gyton's onscreen character Kane is also expected to walk down the aisle later this season as he weds his partner, also named Alex, played by Darren McMullen.
