He is an alumnus of the Sainik School Ghorakhal, Nainital; National Defence Academy Khadakvasla, Pune and the Naval Academy, Kochi and served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command until his retirement on 31 October 2017.
