Ibrahim Abdullah AlSowayel (1916–1977) was a statesman and a nation builder who served his country under four successive kings of Saudi Arabia. As Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and later as Head of the Royal Political Office, he was the key figure in implementing Saudi Arabia's foreign policy laid out by King Faisal. Sheikh Ibrahim AlSowayel rose to the unprecedented position of Foreign Minister at a time when the young Kingdom was faced with internal and international challenges of joining the world community of nations, building infrastructure, planning a future for a nascent population and claiming its position in the international arena. Later, he was instrumental in building Saudi Arabia's agricultural foundation as Minister of Agriculture by implementing large-scale irrigation projects with an eye to conservation of resources.
