Ilana Alazzeh was born in San Francisco to an Israeli mother and a Palestinian father with a family with an ethnic mix of Palestinian, Israeli, Pakistani and Russian heritage. She currently attends Smith College in Massachusetts, where she stays active in community service and interfaith work, regularly speaking on panels regarding Islam, youth leadership and religious pluralism. She has received numerous awards for her art. Additionally, her writings and photography have been featured on NPR, US State Department, SPAN magazine and The Washington Post. In 2010 she was invited to the White House. She is the founder of the US Immigrant Stories Project.
