Hanson married Nicole Dufresne of Panama City, Florida, on September 30, 2006 in Tulsa at the Philbrook Museum of Art in a ceremony in front of 300 guests. Hanson met Dufresne after spotting her in the 5th row of a crowd at their 2003 New Orleans concert.
They have two sons and a daughter: Clarke 'Everett', born April 3, 2007, weighing 8 lbs. 12 oz, James 'Monroe', born July 1, 2008, weighing 8 lbs, 11 oz., and Nina Odette Hanson March 11, 2014, 7 lbs., 15 oz..
