Jonathan Luke Wood (born February 21, 1982), known professionally as J. Luke Wood, is the ninth president of Sacramento State. Wood is an American social scientist, author and previously served as the first Black distinguished Professor at San Diego State University . Wood was ranked by Rick Hess as a top 50 edu-scholar. In 2023, Wood was appointed by the state Senate to serve on the California Racial Equity Commission. He is a consistent voice on leadership theory, black male achievement and school suspensions.
