James Knowles (born 6 April 1993) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as an attacking central midfielder for Blackburn Rovers. Following a breakthrough senior friendly match appearance and effective U-19 performances, he was called-up to the Northern Ireland Under-21 side. Knowles spent his junior career in Northern Ireland with Lisburn Youth. His performances as a goalscoring playmaker attracted the attention of English clubs and Knowles went on trial at Arsenal. In 2008, he joined Blackburn Rovers youth academy. Knowles progressed from the academy to play for Blackburn Rovers’ reserve side. In 2011, at the age 18 years, Knowles made a senior pre-season friendly game start for Blackburn Rovers.
