(14 April 1941 - 21 June 1955) (divorced) (3 children)
Hurling James Roosevelt's wartime confessions of adultery back at him, his wife is suing for separate maintenance on accusations he was intimate with a dozen women.
Mrs. Roosevelt's action includes a copy of a letter to her from Roosevelt in 1945 in which he admits "a succession of active adultery" and lists nine women with whom he said he had had improper conduct.
These affairs are beyond the two year statute of limitations but Mrs. Roosevelt charged later indiscreations in 1952 and 1953 in which she names three more correspondents.
Mrs. Roosevelt, 38, the former Romelle Schnieder from Indepence, Wis., was Roosevelt's nurse at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., in 1938 when he was a Marine Corps colonel under treatment there.
She asks $2,000 a month for herself and $1,500 a month for support of their three children.
They married in 1941.
She estimates their community assets alone at two million dollars.
The 46-year old eldest son of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt had filed a separate maintenance suit on Jan. 18, alleging that Mrs. Roosevelt had caused him "mental and physical anguish and distress."
His wife's legal counter-attack became the most spectacular of the Roosevelt family domestic difficulties.
She alleged that Roosevelt was intimate with Gladys Irene Owens in Los Angeles and Mexico from August to December, 1953; with June Nelson, also known as June Jordan, in Cleveland, Boston, and New York in December, 1952, and with Elaine Hilton in New York in July, 1952.
The women were not further identified.
