Originally from Marblehead, Massachusetts, Jeremiah Pote was a leading merchant of Falmouth, Massachusetts (present-day Eastport, Maine) who owned a "hugely profitable shipyard" and several mills rising to prominence during the American Revolution where he was jailed multiple times.
