Old Joe even bedded down showgirl Evelyn Crowell, the window of dearly-departed Larry Fey, who was Owney Madden’s partner in the popular El Fey nightclub, which featured showgirl Tex Guinan as the main attraction. Fey was also part owner of the Casa Blanca nightclub, a midtown hotspot. On January 1, 1933, Fey was shot to death, shortly after the bells rang bringing in the New Year, by the Casa Blanca doorman, whom Fey had just informed that his pay was being cut. With the unfortunate Fey’s marital bed still warm, Joe Kennedy jumped into it with widow Crowell – the late Larry Fey and Rose Kennedy be damned.
