The actress, who plays Shona Ramsey on the soap, achieved a life-long dream of getting married on a stage as she said her I Dos to her new husband.
Shunning tradition, Julia and Ben decided to walk down the aisle hand in hand, rather than have her family give her away.
Julia said: ‘It was important for us to walk down the aisle together and my parents aren’t traditional. My dad didn’t mind not giving me away as he believes I’m my own person. I can totally understand why people do it, but the way we did it felt right for Ben and I.’ The pair also revealed that they knew they were going to marry each other only a week after they began to date.
‘We really got to know each other in that week. It was ridiculous, as it was 100 miles an hour,’ Ben said. ‘We kind of did nothing but everything at the same time. At the end of the week I remember telling Julia that I loved her.’ ‘I told Ben I’d marry him a week after our first date!,’ Julia added. Julia’s co-stars Jack P Shepherd, Tina O’Brien, Nicola Thorp and Dan Brocklebank were among those in attendance which was then capped off with one hell of a party.
‘At one point, Tina was trying to do a Dirty Dancing lift with my friend Kylie and Lucy [Fallon, who plays Tina’s on-screen daughter] was shouting: “Mum, no don’t!”,’ laughed Julia. ‘It was carnage by the end. It was ace; everyone let their hair down!’
Ben and Julia’s engagement was only revealed to the public at the beginning of January this year, after they managed to keep it secret since March 2018.
Teacher Ben proposed in New York during a holiday surprise set up by Julia for his 30th birthday.
