A. Coster Schermerhorn
Weds Mrs. Kirkland
A marriage yesterday was that
of Mrs. Betty Buck Kirkland of
Beverly Hills, Cal., daughter of
Mrs. Joseph Hustler of Beverly
Hills, and the late Reginald A.
Buck of Great Falls, Mont., to A.
Coster Schermerhorn of this city,
son of Mrs. Alfred E. Schermerhorn, of 24 West Eleventh street,
and the late Mr. Schermerhorn.
The ceremony was performed at
the Madison AvenUe Presbyterian
Church, by the Rev. Dr. George
Buttrick, pastor, in the presence of
the families, and a small reception
was held at the Hotel Marguery.
The couple had no attendants.
The bride was married in December, 1936, at Harrison, N. Y., to
John. M. (Jack) Kirkland, playwright, who dramatized "Tobacco
Road." At that time she was appearing in motion pictures under
the name Julia Laird. They were
divorced in Reno about three
months later.
Mr. Schermerhorn prepared at
Groton and was graduated from
Yale in 1920. He served in the
world war as a lieutenant in the
field artillery. He is with the brokerage firm of Fahnestock & Co.,
this city, and is a member of the
Union, Turf and Field, Piping
Rock, Creek, National Golf Links
and Down Town clubs and of the
Brook, the Pilgrims and the St.
Nicholas Society.
Through his father, Mr. Schermerhorn is descended from families
prominent in the early history of
New York. His first marriage to
the former Miss Ruth Fahnestock,
daughter of Harris Fahnestock, of
New York, took place in 1928 in
St. Thomas Church, and they were
divorced in Reno Inst. November 27.
On the same day Mrs. Fahnestock
Schermerhorn married Mario Alfred Fouqueroux de. Marigny.
