Alfred Vanderbilt, one of the richest men in America, liked to date Hollywood girls, but none captured his heart as much as K.T. Stevens, the beautiful, independent daughter of famous director Sam Wood. After the separation from his firts wife, Manuela Hudson, Alfeed dated a few Hollywood girls, like Margaret Lindsay and Margo, but in the end settled for a serious relationship with K.T. He was mad about her, and followed her whereever she went for work - Hollywood or New York. He even got a divorce from Manuela and was to marry K.T. in autumn 1942. However, K.T. was not in love with him, and they broke up in late 1943. Alfred was seriously miserable, and they got toegther again in 1943, when he was drafted into the US Army to fight in WW2. He was statoned in the Pacific, and he and K.T. wrote daily to each other. However, while he was away, she fell in love with her co-starr, Hugh Marlowe. When Alfred came back in October 1944, he went to visit K.T., but it was clear she loved Marlowe. They broke up there, and he married Jeanne Murray the next year. K.T. married Marlowe in 1946.
