Dr. Kamal Habib is a founding member and a former leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and a former Gama'a Islamiya leader. As one of the organizers of the assassination of Anwar Sadat he was jailed from 1981 to 1991, along with Al-Qaeda deputy Ayman Al-Zawahri who had been his classmate at Cairo University . He is now described as an expert on Islamist groups and a political analyst after giving up armed struggle and becoming a noted Islamist scholar. In 2007 he was a writer for the quarterly magazine of the Islamic Assembly of North America.
