Born Kathryn Jean Martin on 8th March, 1942 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, she is famous for becoming the first woman to have served in both houses of parliament, when she was serving as the Senator for Queensland from 1974 to 1984 and as a member of the House of Representatives from 1984 to 2001, holding the seat of Moncrieff, resulting in her career as the longest-serving female parliamentarian in Australian history.
