On 10 October 2020, Kaylea Louise Titford was found dead in her house in Newtown, Powys, Wales. She had turned 16 years old on 27 September, and was born with spina bifida, leaving her reliant on a wheelchair. When her death was discovered, she had been "left to die" in unsanitary conditions found by the court to be "unfit for any animal". The room was full of rubbish and fly faeces surrounded by soiled housetraining pads for dogs and uncollected bottles of urine from her catheter. When police officers moved her body, there were flies and maggots where she had once been lying and in her bedding. The night of her death, she had repeatedly called her parents for help, only to be told to stop screaming. At her death, she weighed 22 stone 13 pounds (321 lb; 146 kg) and had a body mass index of 70, making her morbidly obese. The court found that her death was caused by gross negligence from her parents.
