Jeff Metcalf (Kyle Chandler) and Ginger Szabo (Tammy Lauren) are the most unlikely couple to ever get together. Jeff is the youngest brother of Ginger`s best friend, Linda. Both Jeff and Ginger were involved in wartime romances that didn`t work out: Jeff with his older brother, Hank`s, girl (Sarah) while Hank was away at war, and Ginger with Charlie Hailey, who married a British girl (Caroline) without telling his fiancee back home, Ginger. After the war ended, at the wedding of Hank and Sarah (also attended by Ginger`s ex, Charlie and his new wife, Caroline), a humiliated Ginger asked Jeff to hide her. Jeff took Ginger upstairs to his attic bedroom where the young, inexperienced two consoled themselves on beers and conversation. One thing led to another until these two, Catholic virgins had sex ... not once, but twice. In they days that follow their encounter, they both reluctantly agree never to have sex again, but neither can forget their passionate first meeting. This leads to a long term dating ritual between two people who have absolutely nothing in common other than a strong physical chemistry. The comedy and the drama that ensues between these two during the run of the series, Homefront, gives the viewers one of the most popular couples on television, often reminiscent of a very young Lucille Ball and a very naive (yet a younger, earnest, American) Desi Arnaz.
