Leon Zaven Surmelian (Armenian: Լեւոն Զաւէն Սիւրմէլեան November 24, 1905 – October 3, 1995) was an Armenian-American author. Surmelian moved to America in 1922,
and authored three major works throughout his lifetime. A survivor of the Armenian Genocide, Surmelian published his first English book, I Ask You, Ladies and Gentlemen in 1945. He is also well known for translating the Armenian epic Daredevils of Sassoun ("Sasna Dzrer") into English.
