Hilary Duff's song "Mature," from her newest album "Luck... or Something," fueled rumors that it was written about Leonardo DiCaprio and a secret affair they may have had years earlier. In the lyrics, Duff describes an older man who consistently dates younger women, something many listeners immediately connected to DiCaprio's well-known dating history.
The line "Very Leo of you with your Scorpio touch" also drew attention, as it can be interpreted both as a zodiac reference and a possible nod to his name, especially considering that he is a Scorpio. The mention of Basquiat further intensified speculation, highlighted in the lyric "Bet she's so impressed by your Basquiat," since DiCaprio is known for his interest in art and collecting, with one of his first major art purchases being a Basquiat drawing.
There is also a reference to Carbon Beach in the lyric "Hid my car at Carbon Beach so I wasn't seen at yours / You knew better, of course." Carbon Beach, often nicknamed "Billionaire's Beach," adds another layer to the theory. This exclusive stretch of Malibu is associated with wealthy homeowners and celebrities, and notably, DiCaprio owned a beachfront property there for over two decades. He purchased it in the late 1990s and later sold it in the early 2020s.
In addition, following the song's release, Duff's husband and album producer, Matthew Koma, fueled speculation by sharing a meme of DiCaprio, 51, in Titanic alongside her album artwork on his Instagram Stories.
However, despite the public speculation, Duff has never confirmed that the song is about DiCaprio. In fact, she has addressed the theories playfully, saying she finds them "fun" and that she will neither confirm nor deny who inspired the track. In more recent interviews, she has shared that the song was inspired by a real relationship with an older man that she now considers "inappropriate," without naming anyone. This has only fueled further curiosity among fans.
In hindsight, fans have also revisited Duff's 2007 song "Danger" from her album "Dignity," which includes the line, "Were you born in '74? / Are you the kind of guy that I should ignore?" DiCaprio was born in 1974, unlike any of Duff's known exes, who, despite being older, were not born that year.
