Details
Livingston Stone was a prominent fish culturist in the 19th century. He is credited with developing the first fish farm in New England. Stone was appointed to build a salmon hatchery on the west coast of the United States under the newly developed U.S. Fisheries Commission. With his crew, Stone chose to build the hatchery on the McCloud River, near Redding, California. There, he spawned fish and shipped the eggs world-wide.
