"I started working for Marie Claire, in those days, the prestigious magazine,” and shooting quirky, expressive models like Susan Moncur, Louise Despointes and Wallis Franken, “who were really giving you real acting, contributing to the picture, not just posing,” he says. “They were not cute, they were soulful,” like Donna Mitchell in New York. “You could discuss Manet with them.” Shortly after he got to Paris, he got involved with Despointes. “She was a big influence,” he says. “I would never edit without Louise.”
