She invited him back to her building to check out the wall mural she had painted with her roommate. That night, Jim told her all about Los Angeles, so she and her friends drove cross-country to see he wasn't lying about that. But he hadn’t been too forthcoming about his relationship status.
One day during her visit, she was hanging out at Jim’s house on Rothdell Trail in Laurel Canyon when Jim's longtime girlfriend Pam Courson walked in and shrieked, “Jim! Who’s that?” Lynn asked. “Oh, this is Pam, my girlfriend.” Jim had failed to mention Pam before then. Lynn ran out of the house and Jim chased after her. Somehow, Jim convinced Lynn to keep hanging out with him. She went back to New York and they met up whenever the Doors traveled east, and she saw him whenever she took trips out to L.A. with her friends.
Lynn was convinced that she could maybe solidify things with Jim if she lived a little closer to him, so she finally made the move to Laurel Canyon in LA, but Jim tested Lynn’s limits just as he did with everyone else. At first it was easy for Lynn to cope with Jim’s behavior because she had been surrounded by one type of craziness or another her whole life. But he kept pushing. Lynn’s relationship with Jim officially ended for good when she moved to a house at Horse Shoe Canyon with a new group of friends. One night, one of Lynn's housemates took Jim to her bedroom... and Lynn left.
In an interview with Robby, he explains:
"Q: There's the part about him flipping quarters into his mouth and swallowing them as a way to impress girls. That's certainly an unusual pickup move! Although I guess it worked, he dated your wife Lynn for a while before you two got together. Was that ever something that was discussed between you and Jim?
A: Nah, not really. She was there when we first went to New York. There was this place called Ondine's Club, and she was one of the gals who would hang out there. She, of course, took a shining to Jim and so eventually she came out to LA. I hadn't even really met her in New York, although I knew she was there. She was one of the gals or guys that would come back to the dressing room and stuff, just to hang out.
Anyway, she was taken with Jim so she decided to come out to LA. Jim had written to her and said something like, "Oh yeah, come on out. I've got this apartment you can stay in." So she comes out and knocks on the door, and who's there but [Jim's longtime girlfriend] Pam. That was their first encounter in LA. Lynn goes, "Who is she?" Jim says, "Oh, she just lives here." So Lynn leaves in a huff, and Jim runs after her, and then almost gets run down by a car. Crazy stuff.
Anyway, I took a liking to her later, when she was pissed off at Jim. I just started seeing her a little more when she was really down on Jim because of all his crazy s—. And it just worked out. She's still with me."
