Mahasin al-Hawati is a Yemeni writer and journalist. She was born in the Sudan in 1969 and has worked at the Yemeni Ministry of Immigration. She has also served as chief editor of the journal Al-Watan. Hawati has published several volumes of short stories, including al-Hukm ala Zaynab (2001), Mamnu istihab al-atfal (2004) and Sana'a allati (2007). Her work has been translated into Italian and was included in Perle dello Yemen, a 2009 anthology of Yemeni literature. Through her writings and activities, Hawati has also attracted the ire of traditionalists, a fact that was noted in a regional human rights report in 2007.
