Doctor Mahboob Alam was born in Kamboh (Kamboj) family in Garhi Bahu (Lahore) in 1942 . He completed M.Sc in Chemistry from the University of the Punjab Lahore in 1965. He did his Ph. D in Organic chemistry from the University of Wales, England in 1967 and Post Doctoral Research Fellowship from University of Southampton, Southampton, England.
