Mary Ann Day Brown (April 15, 1816 – February 29, 1884) was the wife of abolitionist John Brown, executed in 1859 after leading a raid on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, in the hope of ending slavery in the United States. Married at age 17, Mary had the responsibility of raising five stepchildren and she bore an additional 13 children. She supported her husband's abolitionist activities by managing the family while he was away. Mary and her husband helped people of color escape slavery via the Underground Railroad. She lived in several places in Ohio and the anti-slavery settlement of North Elba, New York. After John Brown was executed, she was a California pioneer.
